N. Clark Co. Urbana Champaign VAN WRENRICK HOMER MAN HOME AGAIN Returns From Detroit Where He Saw Many Former Homerites MRS. FRED ROSE HOSTESS Entertained Woman's Club Monday Club Meeting- Dinner Party--Personals Homer, 29-Van Wrenrick has just returned from Detroit where he inspected the plant of the Lincoln Motor company and he reports that a number of Homer men are employed in one of the most important undertakings of the war, the manufacture of the Liberty motor. Glenn Baird, who is a sonin-law of Mr.

Wrenrick, is employed as mechanic in the plant and works seven days per week with only one half holiday since last Thanksgiving James Thompson, also of Homer, is employed as foreman in the plant and holds a responsible position. Doc. Wilson, who until recently employed as the pharmacist in the Smith drug store, is also in the employ of the Lincoln people and is doing duty as night watchman. Frank Carroll, Quinn Wallace and Homer Huff, all former residents of this place, have employment in the factory in various positions. Mr.

Wrenrick stated that he was allowed to make a tour of the factory and that he saw many matters of interest. The Liberty motor, he states, is of twelve cylinders and the first completed ones be turned out of the Lincoln plant this week. Another plant in Detroit, the Packard company, turned out their first Liberty motors last week and it is understood that they will be sent abroad at once. Mr. Wrenrick states that the engine is a marvelous one and that when it is in the rough it weights fifty pounds.

After being turned out, polished and fitted to perfection, the weight 18 only eight pounds. All of the motors which are made at the Lincoln plant are for airplanes and they are being made in secrecy, there being a strict guard over the plant. It is also stated that the new Lincoln plant will be ready for use some time in February and that at this time the two plants will be placed in use. Mrs. Rose Hostess.

Mrs. Fred Rose was hostess to the Womans club at the meeting Monday afternoon and at this time a general club day program was given. Several delightful readings and musical numbers were given Mrs. Rose entertained her guests with a number of selections on the Edison. The committee in charge was composed of Mrs.

Bowen, Mrs. Hays, Mrs. McElwee, Mrs. Krugh, Mrs. Maynard and Mrs.

Fred Rose. Dainty refreshments were served at the conclusion of the meeting. The Clark Club. Mrs. Freeman Meade will entertain the members of the Country Improvement club of the Clark neighborhood at her home on afternoon of 31.

Hugh O'Neil was in Urbana the first of this week and secured the collectors books. He will start making the collections and will be stationed at the township hall. He will be assisted by his daughter, Mrs. Maria 0' Neil. R.

Y. Hall was in Champaign OD Monday on drainage matters. There is very little grain being moved in this section of the country the car shortage being about as acute as it has been during the forepart of. the winter. Farmers greatly desire to sell, as many of them need the money.
