The next dominoes (September 29 edition)

Rumors are swirling. This will be the last dominoes before the AAC likely expands next week.

Three teams are AAC bound: AFA, CSU and UAB. The fourth team will end up being...Charlotte. Yes, Charlotte. According to one of our more reliable sources (Matt Brown), they are getting more play than UTSA, Rice, UNT, or FAU.

West: Air Force, CSU, Tulsa, Navy, SMU, Memphis
East: UAB, Charlotte, ECU, USF, Temple, Tulane

The Mountain West is up next. They decide it's time to get into Texas, and it makes more sense to grab four for travel: Rice, UTEP, UTSA, and North Texas.

West: SDSU, Boise State, SJSU, Fresno State, UNLV, Nevada, Hawaii
Mountain: USU, Wyoming, UNM, Rice, UTEP, UTSA, North Texas

The MAC looks around and stays put.

The Sun Belt then adds 2: Southern Miss and Marshall

West: Louisiana, USM, Texas State, UL Monroe, Ark St, USA
East: Marshall, CCU, App St, Georgia St, Troy, Georgia So

This leaves C-USA with 6 schools. Their options include adding NMSU, Liberty, UMass, and digging into FCS. They choose to add Liberty, NMSU, and JMU, and UMass as a football-only.

North: UMass, JMU, ODU, Liberty, WKU
South: LaTech, NMSU, MTSU, FAU, FIU

Remaining independents: Notre Dame, Army, UConn

Conference USA is not adding UMass' garbage football program. UMass, much like UConn, is arrogantly keeping their only sports that matter in non-football conferences. CUSA would add North Dakota State as a full member before adding a completely worthless piece of s*** program in UMass that does absolutely nothing for their conference except create a travel burden for every member school including the ones in the east.

They could literally stay at 8 full members and have conference viability. They only add New Mexico State if UTEP is left in the conference with no other Texas schools.

If the Mountain West only loses CSU and Airforce and is able to grab UTSA, and North Texas they could come out of this just fine (until Boise St leaves).

If it went like that. They'd go Jax St. as 10 over UMass probably. UMass is way out of the way.

RE: The next dominoes (September 29 edition)

I’m 99% sure that UAB will join the American, and about 80% sure that AFA and CSU will do so. After that it gets murky.

But it would be self-destructive and just weird for the AAC to invite Charlotte, without first inviting Georgia State.

Charlotte is a basketball school. Was in CUSA 1.0 (which is better than AAC 2.0).

North Dakota State, Missouri State, North Carolina A&T and Chattanooga are opened to FBS now besides the ASUN and WAC schools.

I can’t imagine inviting Charlotte over Marshall or App. App has more fans in Charlotte than Charlotte does, more history and is infinitely more relevant. The same can be said for Marshall.

We would almost be better off inviting just I
UAB, CSU and AFA and then just stopping at 11; we could revisit expansion later on down the road.

Whatever happens, I guess we’ll make do and be happy.

Love Halton Arena. Damn nice facility.

Their football just ain’t moving the needle.

RE: The next dominoes (September 29 edition)

The AAC adding Charlotte tells me they expect to lose USF.

I still think the AAC adds another school in Texas, as one of Navy's motivations for being in the West was to play a game in Texas annually. The state is also growing by leaps and bounds. Adding a Texas school instead of Charlotte allows Memphis to move to the East.

Easy, tiger. UMass might be open to an all-sports move at this point. If the goal was the AAC, and the AAC is obviously moving west, what’s to lose?

I would laugh when Air Force and Colorado State turns down AAC seeing that the front runners are schools that are losers on the football field.

Then I would think the AAC would want UMass because they bring a decent brand in basketball and would serve as a great travel partner to Temple. Temple basketball is on an island in the northeast.

The MAC has never been able to maintain 14 members for more than a small handful of years. Sun Belt would be the same way because eventually you hit diminishing returns on non-Power 5 Conference revenue.

RE: The next dominoes (September 29 edition)

The MWC should absolutely move into Texas regardless of if Air Force and CSU leave. North Texas is not getting into the AAC so why not infiltrate the Dallas market and get your programs into the hotbed that is Texas recruiting?

The move requires at least one more Texas school, which should have a baseball team to replace AFA. Either Rice or UTSA work here. If the AAC doesn’t invite a Texas school, it might be worthwhile to invite both and UTEP and expand to 14.

There are speculations who the second D2 to join Southland.
Angelo State
Midwestern State
Central Oklahoma

Heard Angelo State needs to raise money to move up. Midwestern State needs some work. Central Oklahoma is ready since they have been upgrading their facilities.
North Dakota State to MWC is picking up steam.
Missouri State is getting some steam lately.
