Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order certainly established Cal Kestis as a memorable protagonist in the Star Wars universe, but its sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, made Cal into a formidable force to be reckoned with who will stop at nothing to protect those he loves. Thankfully, his story will continue in the next Star Wars Jedi game, which has been confirmed by EA to currently be in development.

Next to nothing is currently known about the next Star Wars Jedi game, but the series has established some habits over its two installments that provide some clues as to what direction the next entry may go. One clue, in particular, makes it possible to speculate on the timeline for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's sequel, simply due to where Star Wars Jedi: Survivor picked things up after the first game. Especially when considering where the story may be going after Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, one pattern it set in motion seems likely to continue in the next installment.

In order to advance Cal's growth over the first two installments as quickly as possible, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes place five years after Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. This time gap justifies Cal's continued growth from a gameplay standpoint, as it gives him much more advanced skills than he could access in the first game. However, the most important piece of the puzzle the five-year time gap contributes to is the narrative.

When players begin Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, they are essentially introduced to a Cal Kestis they've never met before, and one they can get to know on an even deeper level over the course of its story. In the same way, while a time gap has only occurred once in the Star Wars Jedi series, it's more than likely going to occur again in the next game for both narrative and gameplay purposes.

While the narratives of both Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor are plenty to write home about by themselves, they arguably wouldn’t be two parts of a whole without the time jump between them. Cal begins his story in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor as a powerful Jedi Knight, not only shining a light on his immaturity in the first game but also his maturity in the second. This also allows players to experience Cal in a different light, as they are, for all intents and purposes, viewing the story through the lens of an entirely different person.

A time jump also drives home any gameplay differences, as Cal would understandably be a more experienced Jedi than he was before.

To hit the ground running just as its predecessor did, the next Star Wars Jedi title is likely to feature a significant time jump between it and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor for the same reasons. Cal isn't the only one who will benefit from this, as Kata Akuna is presumably going to be Cal's apprentice in the next game. As such, a time jump would put Kata at the right age to train under the leadership of Cal, and it would also lead to some background character development for Kata and Cal throughout the next game's story. That being said, it is only assumed that Cal will be training Kata in the next installment, but a years-long time jump between Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and its sequel would still benefit Cal and his story moving forward.
