Would you like to learn to fly virtually?Mike Miller-Smith, CEO of Aerobility, said: “The Virtual Aviation Experience is the merger of flight school and simulator and delivers it to any disabled person throughout the UK through their computer. The programme helps us support those disabled people who are unable to make it to our centres at Blackbushe Airport, Tatenhill Airfield and Lydd Airport.“It also provides a realistic introduction to piloting one of Aerobility’s aircraft, so should the bug take hold, VAE flyers will have a head-start when coming to fly with us for real. The courses are led by Aerobility pilots, volunteers and flight instructors and are free of charge for those who get a place.”“I really encourage anyone with a disability who has dreamed of flying a plane to apply for one of the VAE places - it could change your life.”VAE is powered by GeoFS - an accessibility web-based flight simulator, built to bring aviation to everyone.Anyone with a disability over the age of 12 can apply to the free VAE course at https://lnkd.in/eTjypD93#Aviation #Pilot #PPL #Disability #Wheelchair #Accessible #Accessibility

Society’s lack of knowledge about autism can hugely limit autistic people from achieving their goals in life, because this lack of knowledge creates barriers to success. We’re often underestimated in our capabilities, or it’s feared that we’re a safety risk. And people make these assumptions without getting to know us or our strengths and challenges.Because of this lack of knowledge, we usually have to choose between one of two equally unfair options:1. disclosing that we’re autistic and potentially facing discrimination (implicit or explicit) or being misunderstood or undervaluedor2. not disclosing we’re autistic and potentially having others think we’re incompetent or incapable, simply because we’re measured against a neurotypical norm. And sure, barriers are something that can be challenged and slowly stripped away, but it can be really tiring to constantly fight against them.So we need two main things if we’re going to approach a solution to this problem: curiosity and education.1. Curiosity to learn about others who are different from you, and what different tools they might need to do the job as well as (or even better than) their neurotypical peers2. And education about what autism and being autistic actually means – in reality, not in medical textbooks or diagnostic manuals or the findings of scientific studies whose methods did not include consulting the autistic community or even the study’s subjects or participantsIf you want to see what it can actually mean to be autistic, then look at Hayden McDonald, a 22-year-old autistic pilot.Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) has celebrated Hayden for his amazing achievement of finishing a historic solo flight around Australia. In itself, this is an absolutely incredible feat! But further than that, Hayden’s mission was to shift people’s understanding of what autistic and neurodivergent people are capable of, if we’re simply given the tools we need to succeed. What can you do to help give autistic people the tools they need to thrive?Be curious.Educate yourself. And don’t just rely on scientific and medical literature.Talk to autistic people.Ask us genuine questions.Learn from us about what it means to be actually autistic. We can tell you more about our own internal experience, what strengths and challenges we have, what we need to succeed and thrive in society, than anyone else can.#Autism #AutismAcceptance #AutismAdvocacy #AutismResearch #Autistic #ActuallyAutistic #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs

The Equal Skies Charter is launching a White Paper at DroneX to emphasise the importance of addressing disability needs from the very beginning as the aviation industry embarks on a new era. With rapid advancements in Beyond Visual Line of Sight and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle technology, the future of aviation holds the potential to deliver transformative experiences for everyone, particularly the disabled community. These opportunities should be available to both employees and service users alike. By focusing on accessibility from the outset, this new phase in aviation, “future flight”, can ensure that technological progress benefits all, creating a more inclusive and equitable industry. The Equal Skies Charter Mike Miller-Smith MBE FRAeS Apian NATS Aerobilityhttps://lnkd.in/ecp6x9EA#aviation #AviationNews #50skyshades #DailyNew #future #flight #duty #embrace #disability #inclusion #rapid #advancements #BeyondVisualLineOfSight #UnmannedAerialVehicle #technology #inclusive #equitable #industry

As a flight instructor, I've observed the importance of understanding Pilot-Induced Oscillation (PIO) for student pilots, especially, in low-performance aircraft, during takeoff and landing. PIO occurs when over-corrections by pilots lead to aircraft oscillations. To handle it effectively:- Stay Calm: Avoid quick, exaggerated inputs. Make smooth, measured adjustments.- Know Your Aircraft: Understand how your specific aircraft responds to controls.- Smooth Inputs: Develop the habit of making smooth, coordinated control inputs.Addressing PIO early in training is key to building confidence and proficiency. Fly safe and keep progressing! ✈️ #AviationSafety #PilotTraining #PIO #FlightInstructorJourney
