City of St. Petersburg Issues Local State of Emergency and Closes City Facilities Ahead of Tropical Storm HeleneThe City of St. Petersburg has issued a local State of Emergency in response to Tropical Storm Helene and is encouraging residents to prepare for potential storm impacts.LATEST STORM/INCIDENT DEVELOPMENTS State of Emergency: The City of St. Petersburg has declared a State of Local Emergency for Tropical Storm Helene, which is expected to become a major hurricane. The declaration gives Mayor Kenneth T. Welch authority to issue special orders to ensure public safety.Weather Update: A Hurricane Watch, Storm Surge Watch and Flood Watch are in effect for Pinellas County. Significant and possibly life-threatening hurricane, storm surge flooding and flash flood conditions are possible in Pinellas County.Storm Surge: The current forecast calls for higher storm surge than Tampa Bay has experienced in recent history, with higher storm surge impacting the county for a longer time period than during Hurricane Idalia. Potentially 5-8 ft of storm surge.Timing: The biggest impacts are currently expected throughout the day on Thursday. Evacuations: As of 4:30 p.m. today, Pinellas County has not issued mandatory evacuations. Residents are urged to continue monitoring the storm at disaster.pinellas.gov and through local news sources. CITY OF ST. PETERSBURG CLOSURESAll City facilities will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 25, and Thursday, Sept. 26, including Sunken Gardens.The St. Pete Pier will close at 2 p.m. tomorrow. Patrons should check with individual restaurants for operating hours.Residential trash and recycling will not be picked up on Thursday, Sept. 26. Thursday pickups for both residential and recycling will be collected on Saturday, Sept. 28. Please secure all cans when doing storm preparations.Brush sites will be open Wednesday, but will be closed Thursday. The City plans on business as usual on Friday, but please check City social media for real-time updates.The Code Enforcement Board Meeting is cancelled for Wednesday, Sept. 25.All City Council Meetings and Committee Meetings are cancelled for Thursday, Sept. 26.CITY OF ST. Mental Health Awareness for the Community by community!! This was a football Sunday and we still was able to pack the building standing room only!!! For a mental health awareness meeting is un heard of in the black community and we did it ! Salute to the amazing panel- our amazing hosts hospitality and Tampa Bay Breakfast Club & Community Development and Training Center for caring enough to fill the gaps and plug the community im directly to resources
