My sister worked at a daycare a couple years ago and she always talks about the obsessive nature her kids had over this PAW Patrol. Whenever playtime occurred and she had to give out the PAW Patrol toys, it was the preschool equivalent of The Hunger Games

@Eric Quinncan you do a break up of MTC 1 & 2at your place for Free Guy. Trying to make a relation, as in if FG is reallybehind JC in just MTC 2.
Well I only track one theater from MTC2, because there's not a lot around Philly. That theater...doesn't have Free Guy showings yet.
As for MTC1, that is the majority of what I track and their Free Guy sales make up about 83% of all tickets sold so far. But they usually take up a majority anyways here in Philly, just because of more locations and I guess maybe also just because of AMC A-List. I dunno, I don't know what their usual skew is and it's almost 1 AM here, so I don't think I'll do it at this point in time.

Best Picture Predictions - 2021
in And The Winner Is...

Think I remember reports that there was tons of tension on the set for The Revenant.
But really, while this might be a mistranslation, this seems more like a David Fincher "do 70 takes for one scene" kind of deal than it is a David O. Russell "yelling at Lilly Tomlin and being a sex pest"

Ehh, I feel like Mortal Kombat and Suicide Squad arethe only franchises that will be discarded, and even then Peacemaker's in the can and is probably cheaper than most superhero shows to justify an extra season or two.I'm sure Margot will also finagle her way somewhere into a DC project. Likewise, Gal will definitely push a Wonder Woman 3 or just pop up in another hero's movie. No matter what you will say about 1984, the character and Gadot's performance isstill iconic to earn some more chances.
We'll probably get some sort of Monsterverse follow-up, and they set King Kong to have a return in the ending to GvK. Conjuring movies are cheap enough to still make movies and spin-offs out of them. We got a new Looney Tunes show when HBO Max first dropped and I'm sure we'll keep getting Looney Tunes shorts or character-focused spinoffs. And unless Dune is the megabomb of the century (and regardless of what some of you weirdos think, that will not be the case), we're getting that Dune TV show. Matrix might be dependent on whether Lana Wachowski wants to do more, but you never know.
It's really not gonna be as bad as people are making it out to be.

Based on current presalesI'd go with:
Free Guy: 27M
Respect: 13M
Don't Breathe: 8M
Did a quick glance at Thursday shows here in Philly and I could sadly see Respect going sub-10M. It sales areabout on par with Don't Breathe here at this stage, and that's a warning sign to me as Black-led movies overindex here. Obviously I know that the audience demographics are different and that Don't Breathe will likely havebigger previews anyways and that Respect isn't presales-driven, has that early screening today, etc.
However, it did cause me to pause a little bit.

Yeah and that’s the thing. The only thing going for Shang Chi right now is that it is part of the MCU, nothing else.
Henry Golding is a bigger star internationally than Simu Liu.
let’s be honest here if it wasn’t part of the MCU; many people here would not have been so lenient on the trailers and advocating it so much. It would have flopped more than Snake Eyes if it wasn’t part of the MCU.
The trailers and posters are genuinely worse than Snake Eyes, and less intriguing. People are gonnawatch it because they are marketing Abomination and Wong; and that is part of the connected universe which they are a fan of.That's...true with every Marvel movie? Films live or die on the popularity of their brand or franchise, and even something like Black Panther or Iron Man would not be as popular as they are if they weren't Marvel-branded. Not sure why you're targeting this specifically as if this is the only movie that would flop if it wasn't Marvel-branded.

Gunn isn't wrong on watching things on tv and them becoming popular similar toA Wonderful Life, but that has stayed in the cultural zeitgeist and hascreated endless revenue streams because they sell millions of dollars in ads over the years.
Where is The Suicide Squad ever going to be seen beyond its theatrical run. From everything I understand it might end up on HBO, but largely it will live forever on HBOMax where it is completely dependent on being seen by people subscribed to it, which in the overall scheme of things is a very small amount of people.
A Wonderful Life has been seen by literally billions of people over the last 70 years because it ends up on network or cable tv.
That might be the sad lesson of streaming overall. Way too many movies are going to never find their true audience because they live behind a gated paywall.
Stuff like Narcos and Bojack Horseman have already appeared on syndication. High School Musical: The Series popped up on Disney Channel to hype up season 2. Disney and Warner own cable channels and broadcast networks, so I'd imagine Soul and Luca and Godzilla vs. Kong and Space Jam 2 to pop up on those channels. They're also readily available on home media or are set to be on home media, so it'll be pretty easy to watch these movies outside of their streaming services.
And even then, when you consider how movies these days are reliant on their franchises and corporateoverlords, most of the audience for these movies...are already on these services. If Black Widow was exclusively on Disney+, I don't think the Marvel fanbase will be unable to access the film.

Okay another question.
How does Netflix thrive with moderately big budgeted movies without theaters or DVDs?
They make these movies at a loss and use subscription revenue to basically pay for their budgets
