Accounting BSc (Hons) - Regulatory analyst, SMBC Europe Ltd

After the financial crisis, I wanted to understand how banks have changed and how the stricter regulations affected them. I worked in the regulatory team at SMBC, a Japanese bank. My role was to produce liquidity reports that were sent out internally and externally to regulators.It has definitely helped my career goals as I would like to go into regulatory banking after graduating which was an area I previously I knew very little about.

I love the fact I am meeting new people with diverse cultures and personalities and because of London’s location, I get to see new places and have great experiences. I am enjoying studying Investment and Risk Finance, especially because in class I can relate the scenarios that I study in books to real-life situations.

I chose to do a placement year as I believe it would help me with my future career. I also wanted to see if finance was something I wanted to pursue after I graduated. I study Accounting at Westminster and have been able to first hand see how finance and accounting works in a huge corporation like IBM. My job as Finance Analyst included revenue, cost transfers, and days sales outstanding support. This year has helped me realize my potential, and helped me figure out what career path I want to go down.
